Preview: Silkmen vs Shakers

Last updated : 28 January 2005 By MAD Reporter
Jon Parkin's twenty goals in all competitions makes him the Silkmen's top scorer in a season in the club's Football League history, overtaking Matt Tipton's record of 19 set last season. Jon's sixteen League goals means he is currently tied with the record set by Matt (season 2003-04) and Richie Barker (season 1999-2000). Jon still has seventeen games to go to break that record as well. Jon currently sits second in the League Two goalscorers to the 18 of Phil Jevons of Yeovil and he is joint top spot with Jevons for goals in all competitions. A tremendous achievement. Jon is just the sort of striker the Silkmen have needed, someone with a bit of height and muscle, but he shows such skill and awareness as well. John Askey should be well thanked for bringing the big fellow to the club.

Back at the beginning of October in the encounter at Gigg Lane, it was Matt Tipton's goalscoring being celebrated as he scored his thirty-second League goal for the Silkmen, overtaking John Askey's old total of thirty-one. Matt currently sits on forty-nine career League goals - 15 with Oldham and 34 for Macc Town. Bury went on to win the game due to what can best be described as two howlers by the Macc defence.

It should be a return to the Moss Rose for David Flitcroft, who has managed to pick up two red cards so far this season. Danny Swailes should also be lining up against his old team mates.
