Macclesfield went away from Somerset convinced they should have collected all three points.
A controversial second equaliser saved Yeovil midway through the second half and on the day the better placed Glovers were fortunate to pick up only their second draw since they became a Nationwide league club.
In the 60th minute home midfielder Darren Way fired in a shot which was headed clear by Karl Munroe.
The Macclesfield defenders were mortified when the assistant referee signalled the ball had crossed the line.
"I was pleased with a point, but disappointed that Yeovil were given that second goal. My defenders are convinced that the ball didn't cross the line and I'm waiting to see a video," said Macclesfield boss John Askey.
For Yeovil, these are difficult days. After looking capable of automatic promotion in the early months, they are now slipping down the table with only one win in seven games.
"We had a bad first 20 minutes and although we had little spells it was not a good performance," said manager Gary Johnson, who admitted he had work to do to get his team's promotion bid back on track.
In a wind spoilt first half, Macclesfield led twice. Colin Pluck floored Matthew Tipton to concede a 20th-minute penalty which Tipton put away himself.
Jake Edwards equalised on 30 minutes at the third attempt after two previous efforts had been blocked, but Macclesfield regained the lead on 38 minutes though Martin Carruthers.
Although Yeovil dominated the second period there were two occasions when they were caught napping at the back. Both chances fell to Carruthers and both were allowed to go begging.
The first of these in the 54th minute followed a bad clearance by home keeper Chris Weale, whose training twice a week with West Ham prior to a possible transfer, and three minutes later Carruthers fired inches wide when put totally in the clear with a through ball from Tommy Widdrington.
